Bertie Boffin says THANK YOU!

Bertie Boffin here in Torridon, bouncing over to say Hi to all my friends around the world.

In particular today, I want to say a big THANK YOU to the many fine folk in the USA who continue to back global action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

So thank you to the Governors of California, New York and Washington State, and to all those city mayors for showing leadership in supporting the Paris climate accord.

All over our precious planet, we are blanketed by the same atmosphere and we share a responsibility to ensure, using the best of our scientific knowledge, that our actions do not cause our climate to destabilise.

Did you know that my Human Granny was brought up in heart of the Yorkshire Coalfield, and her father, Gail's Grandad, used to work for the National Coal Board? And that when Human Granny moved to the city of Nottingham to work at the Boots factory, the environment was so clean in comparison, she once told Gail she thought she had moved to Paradise! When Gail was a little girl, her own Granny (HGY's mother) used to fuss over her all the time, worrying about potential chest infections, and later Gail understood this was because her Granny came from a region where lives were too commonly blighted and shortened by lung disease caused by the pollution from the coal mines and from industries fuelled by coal. So while Gail and I feel very sorry for those many people around the world who have lost jobs due to closures of coal mines, and are well aware of the devastation wrought on the mining communities, we firmly believe, President Trump, that there are better, smarter ways to create new employment.

  5. Bertie, you should be an ambassador for Global Action on Climate Change. Looking at the photos of you at Torridon, it's hard to believe that there are so many places in the world that don't have such beautiful clean air.

    Love,

  7. We felt heartened when we heard all those CEOs. Our 'Trump' side of the family all have one thing in common, they don't want to do any training or education, and can't deal with change.

  8. Well said Boffin Bertie. Some forward thinkers might even find alternative job opportunities and industries to employ people who can no longer be employed in dirty industries. It has to start sometime. One only has to look at the recent comments by Prof Hawking that we may need to find another planet.

You are right, the air is for all of us to share! I hope the people start taking better care of it!

Bertie lad, you know I's been absent from the etherwebbles and telephones and televisions for over a week now and am woefully behind in the impawtant news - but I am guessing DT has been spitting the dummy again... and that the ROTW is seeing sense in spite of him. Sigh... I need to do some catching up. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx (from Edin and etherwebblisation)

  11. Amen Bertie you are preaching to the choir here. Many of our big businesses have spoken out against the Donald particularly Procter and Gamble whose headquarters are here in Nati. We have no respect for him for he shows no one else any respect. Kentucky United Sates Senator Mitch McConnell loves having his citizens sick with strip mining. They are halfwits, ignoramus, idiots.
Thanks for the POTP Lee is worried about me and she hates we have to wait two whole weeks to get in to the specialist. Please keep me in your prayers.

  13. As Californians, we are committed to allowing less methane gasses into our community. Especially Otto who seems to emit more than his fair share.

  15. As longtime lurkers from the US we want to thank Bertie for stepping up to share his knowledge on this important scientific matter. We expect him to be asked shortly to join President Macron and Chancellor Merkel in leading the world forward with solutions. We hope Gail is willing to make the sacrifices necessary for Bertie to move to the world stage. Heaven knows we need Bertie's insights to cope with the massive methane emissions coming from Washington DC.
